Hey Green Giants!! Two more days till City Meet ... hope everyone is getting lots of rest and pre-hydrating this week. It's very important to make sure your swimmer(s) are hydrated before the meet ... especially in this heat. The heat index for Friday and Saturday is estimated to be in the triple digits so please make sure your swimmers are drinking plenty of water.
As a reminder, the CASL Championship Meet is ran differently than our weekly Dual Meets. For instance, 8-unders and 9&10’s will swim prelims during the morning session and the 11-12’s through 15 & up will swim in the afternoon prelims. The top 8 finishers from the prelims will qualify for the championship finals. The 9th through 16th place finishers from prelims will qualify for the consolation finals. The next 2 places will be listed as alternates, who will move into the consolation heat should there be any scratches. A swimmer who swims in the consolation finals can place no higher than 9th.
SCRATCHES: A swimmer who places in the top 16 in a prelim/final event and does NOT plan to swim in the evening session should scratch with the Admin Referee within 30 minutes of the announcement of the event’s top 16. Notifying the Admin Referee of a scratch is a courtesy and greatly appreciated as it allows for placement of alternates.
All 8-unders and 9-10’s 7 a.m. for warm-ups. The meet will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. 11-12’s and up will need to report to the pool at 12 noon for warm-ups. The afternoon session will begin around 1:30 p.m. If your swimmer is seeded in the top 16 or if they are an alternate for finals they will need to report back to the pool at 5:30 p.m. for warm-ups. It’s extremely important for your swimmer to be here ready to warm up at that time. Events will be in order starting with the 8-under girls and will proceed alternating between girls and boys. When arriving to the meet it’s extremely important that you purchase a “Heat Sheet.” These will be sold for a nominal fee (generally $10) right when you walk in the gate. The Heat Sheet will tell you your swimmer’s event number, heat, and lane in which they’ll swim. Another difference from our weekly Dual meets is that swimmers will need to report to Clerk of Course prior to their swim. They don’t just show up behind the blocks like during Dual meets. The Clerk of Course will give your swimmer a card and will place them with their respective heat and lane. Clerk of Course helpers will then escort the swimmers to the blocks. It’s extremely important that your child goes to and stays in Clerk of Course until they swim. The meet attracts swimmers from all over the Chattanooga Area Swim League from all three divisions so the meet will last longer than the weekly Dual Meets. Please make sure to pack your swimmer plenty of snacks and drinks, sunscreen, t-shirts, hats, games, activities, etc. Timers Needed: Each team is to provide one time and one watch for each session (A total of 7 people per team). The team timers should report to the head timer near the starting blocks at least 15 minutes prior to the time scheduled for the beginning of each session of competition. A relief timer for each session is advisable. Failure of a team to provide a timer and a watch in a session may result in that team’s swimmers being disqualified from that session. If you are interested in helping time during Friday morning, Friday afternoon, Friday finals, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, and/or Saturday finals, please contact our team’s Head Timer, Mark Jenkins. We have to have these filled prior to registering our team!! Rest Area: Spectator seating is provided in bleachers on the pool deck. Tents will be set up outside of the pool area in team designated grassy areas. Our seating area is located in the front to your right, if you are looking from the driveway/turnaround, by the wooden fence. Please sit with our team so our coaching staff knows where to find your swimmers!! We will be recruiting parents to help gather swimmers ... especially for the younger relays. If you can help, please see a member of the board. CALLING ALL TENTS - We will be setting up the tents that our team owns, but we strongly encourage folks to bring their own tents ... the more the merrier as it is going to be very hot and sunny this weekend. We will be setting up tents Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. If you can volunteer a tent please meet us at Warner Park Thursday at 4 p.m.
Parking: Please be aware of designated parking areas. There should be ample parking when entering from McCallie Avenue or 3rd Street.
Concessions: Food and refreshments will be available. You are strongly encouraged to bring plenty of snacks and drinks – water preferable – to keep your swimmer hydrated. Cold pastas, fruits, muffins, and again plenty of water and fluids are recommended. |
